shout out object shows with canon queer ships. I'm talking on screen kiss or even just verbal confirmation. all things considered it's a bit strange you don't really see them that much when you think about how gay everyone here is. I love you ii but c2bc did what you didn't and I think that's actually really nice.
#girl makes claims when there's 1 more ep for ii and many more for c2bc. police arrest her.#inanimate insanity#ii#osc#silver's mental breakdown#c2bc#c2bc spoilers#do we do that here or what#fireball c2bc#pound c2bc#i always misread his tag as pound cake. i am but a fool#also is firepound mildly fanbrush coded ir am i kind of losing it. it's someone and pb. because fireball is very pb coded. inspired? somethi#ng. also c2bc totally takes influences from ii and we all noticed that right. it's not a bad thing. ii is my favorite show. but like. āim nb#.ā ik there was like no other way to say it but that's exactly what pb says in s3. āhe wants to make a boys club!ā āim nb.ā āi mean... a no#girls club!!!!ā i think i lile c2bc but im bot 100% sure? i saw someone comment that all the chars are likeable but like. speaker isn't!! st#op bullying my girl corky!! she's literally not that bad! don't get me started on beerkeg. i dont feel bad that he was manipped bcus like. d#ude she said no. leave ger alone#!!#i dont feel bad for him at all snd even cheered when princess hat (?) started using him even though it was not the greatest move and not sup#er healthy. s2's cast is still mych better though. justice for portal though!!!!!!! gone too soon. i kinda shipped. princess hat (?) and tap#e measure in s1 btw i never told anyone that but I did think it. service bell is like a taco i like mych less. and shout out firepound and m#mirror book. pretty crazy how gay objects can just live in my head and i let them do that. anyways sorry for writing a whole nother post in#the tags i just haven't shared my thoughts yet and wanted to lol.#i like it i think#firepound#<- oh hey look gay people

I'd probably have to read the printed version and web version back to back at some point to note all the differences but... ough
#sorry i'm going to be excited about this comic for the next month#nofna#okay having finished this now--#and sorry if this doesn't make sense to anyone who's completely unfamiliar with this comic in advance-#the 'popcorn ending' (printed version) is nice to see but i think the web version hits harder. if that makes sense#so i'm kinda tied on which ending i 'prefer'- i think both are good though#also considering i've read the web version a good 4-5 times and the printed version only once- i probably can't make that judgement yet#easy answer- i do like Nutsedge :] so it's nice to see the ending where nothing bad happens to her#but also- NT suddenly becoming a greenie-esque villain out of nowhere felt a little jarring#as well as SV suddenly turning a corner and becoming a 'good guy' (arguable)- considering the first three books are about#/him being too stubborn to change or accept any outside worldviews . Him suddenly coming to his senses felt out of place#<- probably biased because i like characters being bitter to the end and ultimately destroyed by their own hubris#the web version is probablyā objectivelyā a bit better#but -#(spoilers- if you're planning to drop ~70 bucks on getting these books)#the conceit of SV actually perfecting his styleā using it onceā and then immediately getting tooth-brained- was pretty cool#assuming it's meant to parallel him spending months tormented by trying to perfect it while something's still missing-#and then dying before he can narrate it to the audienceā so that we never know what he figured out.#hard to articulate these thoughts but tl;dr- popcorn ending also had a lot to think about

For t/f: I assume youāre a huge advocate for physical books over ebooks??
False!
~
Ebooks are hugely accessible, and as someone with massive RSI issues in my wrists (partly from writing), holding heavy books and the repetition of turning pages can be literally agonising, and can even lead to me needing surgery one day for tendon release.
I do love physical books, and I have a large collection that I'm very proud of, and weed on a yearly basis. But I absolutely am not an advocate for them over ebooks, let alone a huge one. Ebooks have been such a game-changer for anyone with accessibility issues.
Readers no longer have to rely on publishers being grudgingly generous enough to offer books in large fonts if they have visual processing issues. They can change the font (most of the time) on an e-reader. Readers no longer have to lug around extremely heavy nonfiction books, and can save their backs and wrists. Readers who live in very small or cramped spaces because of poverty or other reasons no longer have to deal with 'where do I keep all these books' because some of them (or all of them) can be ebooks. Also, almost always - with mostly the exception of some university texts - they're cheaper. What a win!
On an accessibility level, ebooks win every time, especially now that we have so many lighting options so that people don't have to put up with backlight etc. anymore. They highlight just how previously ableist the publishing industry has been around visual accessibility and joint strain accessibility.
So I'm mostly a hardcore advocate of people reading how they want to read. A hybrid mix. Only audio. Only ebook. Only paperbacks. Only hardbacks. Some combination of the four.
I love the smell of books, but I don't love the dust. I love having them organised in my library, but I don't love the eternal problem of never really having enough room. I love my ebook collection, but I sometimes forget to check into it. I love that I can get very large nonfiction tomes in ebook form, but sometimes I find them harder to highlight etc. because there's something visceral to me about dragging a highlighter or pencil across a page. Everything has its pros and cons.
But ebooks beat out literally everything else except audio for accessibility (though I can't do audio ironically because of accessibility, lmao, my auditory processing for language isn't great).
#asks and answers#memey goodness#yeah no i am definitely not a huge advocate for physical books over ebooks#*honestly* i think that's a really outdated and ableist perspective#that comes from a time when authors resisted ebooks overall as being 'vanity projects'#and resented how prolific they were becoming#even libraries have gotten on board with loaning ebooks#i mean the only books i've released are ebooks#it'd be pretty hypocritical of me to be like#'but physical books are better tho'#they're really not on a lot of objective metrics#BUT i still love em#i just don't advocate for them#i advocate for people getting books in the formats that work best for them#when they can

theres sth deeply sad abt a lot of translated works (and i dont mean some ya novel translated frm english to french. obviously.) in the imperial core being shortened/abridged bc the translator deemed those parts unimportant or straight up didnt have the cultural/historical/religious knowledge to understand WHY theyre important... not to mention how they tend to be biased in their translating to pigeonhole sfuff into western frameworks of thought like š
#yes i am still salty as hell abt the amnt of shitty jttw and rotk translations out there...#arthur waley is my personal nemesis... not as much as marcus' tho he truly hates that man but im like. somewhere in the top10 for sure#i also loathe how theres this trend in western tl of eastern works to like... literally translate namea.#cicada for diaochan (rotk). trinket for xiaobao (tdatc). MONKEY???? FOR SUN WUKONG??? I STILL HATE THIS THE MOST. JTTW ISNT EVEN CALLED JTTW#HE NAMED THE BOOK MONKEY AND WAS DONE WITH IT HE USED OBJECT NAMES AS THE CHARACTER NAMES I WANT THAT MAN DEAD THRICE OVER#ling.txt#there are wayy more examples btw but this is why u need footnotes in ur translations idfc if u think it's clunky#or takes away from the immersion or whatever the fuck it's better than being an ignorant piece of shit bc the tl ur reading SUCKS

It's not exactly what he's saying, but the idea that something is not literature or not by what it is but by the way it's engaged way, opening up the idea we give it worth by treating it as worthy, that a thing is not loveable until it is loved, that when I read a book that may not have the esteem around it that others do but I take the time to care and read carefully for the good the true and the beautiful it is elevated beyond what it might be in another's hands. (But that taken in tension with Lewis's earlier point that good reading is receiving rather than using-- that you take the text as it is with its own art and ideas rather than trying to read yourself and your ideas into the text) so that there is a listening and a receiving but also a pouring back into it our own effort and care.
So a book does not simply exist as literature, it is made literature by caring being given to it. And just because a book has not yet been read that way does not mean it cannot be.
#cogent reads#cs lewis#an experiment in criticism#listen theres a lot rattling around here#but i read the highlighted sentence and heard palpatine in my head and went and made thia#i DO think there is objective value to art and some is better and some is worse and there has to be something THERE To first receive#but i think its like...#great books give you a sapling to plant and through your attention and thought and care you water it into a tree#but there also books that give you just a cutting or seed and you have more work to do with that but with care a tree still grows

I have to be so honest and vulnerable with you for a second. I keep thinking of getting another complete works of Shakespeare
#tales from diana#my riverside 1973 is still my beloved baby but she's really worse for the wear these days#i didn't start thinking about it till i got one for my friend like 6 months ago for his bday#and i kept looking at it and being like oh wow. his doesn't have all the scratches and rips mine does#mine is still BETTER obviously bc it's MINE. it's in worse condition objectively but it's MINE#making it the best copy in existence. to me#and it was my aunt's textbook at boston college. my grandmother let me have it. i think of it as a family heirloom#and the coating on the front cover side of the spine has been slowly tearing off :(#like there's one long vulnerable rip almost all the way down. idk how to prevent it from breaking further#other than just by not using it. and idk how to fix it wo making it potentially worse#i didn't know how to take care of old gigantic books when i got it at 19. i never considered it#i hadn't had one before. but now im more experienced#and im also just curious about what's inside other editions. especially newer ones#i only have 6 plays and at least 3 of them i plan to read in a copy other than the riverside#like my 23 plays and sonnets (1953) edited by t. m. parrot has 2 and another play im gonna borrow from library lending#and id definitely wanna get rid of a lottttt of books i have right now before getting a new one#im already planning on which books to donate when i declutter#and i need to declutter my books DESPERATELY. so so desperately#it'd just be nice to have another complete works in my collection. for a number of reasons.#that way i also suppose ill have two big books of shakespeare for auntie diana to pass down someday#i don't plan on getting one soon im just in the contemplative phase. but boy am i tempted

but like speaking seriously. i genuinely, truly wish this was still the age of terrible shovelware games and not. whatever the fuck is happening now between the mobile gaming market, microtransactions, and. the everything of it. itās not that shovelware is good, itās that itās interesting! itās not any less corporate in its goals, but itās lessā¦ evil? you know? you pay for shovelware game, you still get a game, as terrible as it might be. it wonāt have ads in it, it wonāt ask you to pay more money once youāve bought it, itāll just be almost innocently terrible on its disc in its entirety, entertaining to shit on with friends and an enigma as to what went into its creation. i have a genuine little place in my heart for awful tie-in games, especially when you can tell that for however bad they are, there was one person on that team that you can tell gave a shit. (and sometimes there wasnāt. but thatās still fun. the game still had to be made, someone still had to make choices about itās creation, and those choices can be fascinating!)
#idk man sometimes i just sit and think about that guardians of gahoole video game#because like i said. its a tie-in. objectively shovelware. but its also like. weirdly detailed???#its made to tie-in with the movie released around the same time. it mirrors the plot of the movie.#actually it fleshes out that plot and makes it even better in conjuction but thats besides the point#the point is that that game? has so many references not to the movie. but to the BOOK SERIES!!!!#you get an eagle as a follower in that game!!! an eagle!!! they dont even show up in the movie and yet you end up in the desert of kuneer#and an eagle joins your party!#the gaāhoole tree is rendered so lovingly and you can fly around and explore it. and so is the forest of tyto and kuneer! places that only#show up for a bit in the movie!#THE BEAKS!!! THE BEAKS ARE IN THE GAME!!! THE BEAKS ARE NEVER EVEN MENTIONED IN THE MOVIE AND YET!!!#HAGSFIENDS ARE IN THE GAME AND THOSE ARE BOOK ONLY TOO!!!!#SOMEONE HERE CARED!!!!! someone here cared. and they will never know that i love them for that. they will never know how much they made my#time playing that game even better because i knew all those details from the books and i appreciated every one.#and its like. thats it you know? thats the point. someone made this. in the end someone made this and whether they loved making it or hated#it. they still made a piece of art that we can dissect and understand and enjoy.#and you just. thats all gone with shit like mobile games and microtransactions and endless horse armor level dlcs and. you get it.#in my eyes. even ninja gingerbreadman 2 has more artistic social and philosophical value. than a thousand hours in that new shit diablo game

#I donāt feel excited about anything anymore#I keep trying to feel the way I used to about tv or movies or books or special events in my life#but thereās just thisā¦ hollow apathy#Iām just going through the days#alive but not there#whatās the point of living and being alive when nothing gives you any happiness#I know the whole āthere will always be low points but that makes the highs all the betterā argument#but itās been so low for so long and I canāt imagine ever feeling a high point again#itās all just going to get worse from here#how do you cope when this is objectively the best time of your life and the most well off youāll ever be but youāre still miserable#itās pathetic#Itās going to be this but worse for the rest of my life and then nothing#and Iām so lucky with what I have and where I am and Iām still. so. sad.#itās pathetic and stupid and I hate that Iām like this#I justā¦ I donāt want to keep doing this#what do I do#tw: depression#tw: hopeless

The way some people talk about Vickyās writing in comparison to the new team kinda reminds me of how Pokemon Anime fans miss 4kids a lot and swear that if the 4kids dub kept going then the anime would have been infinitely better, and then you see how much of a meme some parts of the original dub were plus different fandoms with 4kids dubs wanted their heads on a stick. And itās like yeah comparatively the new team is worse and the ogs got a raw deal but lets not get ahead of ourselves- itd still kinda suck
#its definitely a meme and its funny to laugh at jelly donuts and bad sandwich edits but like.#4kids was like. objectively not good at adaptation. theyd keep out shit all the time like literally changing entire plotlines#and yeah the new voice team is comparatively worse but on my rewatch i noticed that the dub changes went WAY down#cause im also reading the bulbapedia page for each episode and they list the dub changes. and ofc they still change things#but they dont like remove and insert plotlines like 4kids did. for better or for worse#best i can think of is when they removed gohās rillaboom parents talking in the dub removing the implication that theyre his parents#which like. his parents are dark skinned so honestly that was for the best#ok uh back to wc. yeah vicky is comparatively a better writer and its good to distinguish whats her vs the new team#but some people seem to think that vickys work was fantastic compared to this#and comparatively it is better but likeā¦ lets not forget the new team had to fix the insanely misogynistic ashfur plot from po3 and oots#lets not forget they had to point out that bumblestripe was a creep vs vicky saying āāuwu hes soft and dove is so cute with himāā#shes the one who went on that whole rant about how the fandom forced her to kill ferncloud#hollyleafs entire deal was an ACCIDENT that she just admitted with her whole chest#she believed that pairings without constant toxic arguments and threats of cheating were boring and thats why she killed sorreltail#and did the unpleasant cloudbright vs daisy deal and spotted/fire/sand in firestars quest#i mean part of the reason bramble x squirrel is so toxic is bc she likes it like that and thinks its healthy wnd good#im pretty sure she was behind clear sky getting two fridged wives in a single book#shes better than the new team but likeā¦ is that much of a compliment

50% through Painter Knight. read over 100 pages today so theres still something here that im enjoying obviously, just difficult not to compare it to stone prince which was so extremely Me coded. as interesting as the story and characters are this time around i still crave the emotional depth present in Demnor's no good nightmare hellish adventure of a sad life. but thats just me :(
#read some reviews of the next books in the series and some people say the author's writing gets better in her later books#which is interesting. because objectively stone prince felt richer and stronger overall#but theres still time left for me to be surprised. so we'll see!#book thoughts#branion

im getting the english translation of de materia medica for my birthday and i am SO excited because its so fucking hard to find
#for normal people who dont know what it is: imagine those wiccan/neopagan books where they describe what plant heals what#except this book actually has correct information and was the basis for pharmacology for 1500 years after it was written in 50CE!!!!#and is generally considered THE founding father of western and arab pharmacology and was the building block for our knowledge today#its like 700 pages lmfao#AND its fucking sorted by ailments not by plant names which is even better because thats just an objectively better way to sort it#but like do you know how good a book has to be for it to be written in 50CE and still be considered the basis of its craft 1500 years later#through the fucking DARK AGES

[ image desc: a taken picture of a physical copy of the book Herkes İƧin Yapısal Yolla Ä°talyanca (Structured Italian for Everyone) by Asım TanıÅ. // end id ]
#it belongs to my classmates father! she let me borrow it for today!#i got to look into it a little at school and got to page 51 out of excitement - its really well phrased and teaches well!#i already knew most of the concepts covered so far but i /did/ gain some new vocabulary knowledgeā which is great#it's fascinating! i wonder how far i'll get into it in just one day. probably pretty far#im quite surprised myself as to how much this is exciting meā but i can't help it... the similarities are very fascinating#i've also found that it clicks much better into my mind when im learning italian through turkish! unlike duolingoā which teaches it in -#- english.#of courseā sentence structure difference between turkish and italian does make it a tiny bit challenging when forming an italian sentence#(as i confuse the word orderā especially when going beyond a simple subject-verb-object sentence)#but otherwise it's fascinating how i understand much better through turkish!#im very excited to read through it as far as i can.#i'll have to give it back tomorrow - tragedyā really.#i'll find a pdf of it thoughā its fine#šrambling#side note // her father's notes all the way back from 2002 are still in this and it's so endearing.#hi sir i don't know you. your handwriting is really small. thank you#by god i will take care of this book like my life depends on it to make sure nothing happens to it. this book contains so much#it has 551 pages worth of material by the way

just realised that the first media we consumed that made us REALLY sympathetic for the monster was that fucking point and click Mystery Case Files Ravenhearst game. bc that entire game i was legitimately fucking TERRIFIED of the ghost lady in that game but the second i found out her husband was abusive i doubled down on trying to help her escape. and the ending of that game Did make me cry out of fear but hey at least i did in fact help her escape
#i think that was the first game we ever like. completed. as well#NO it was hidden expedition amazon bc that one was less scary so it was easier to beat LMAO#we had both of those games on a single disc as a kid#one o those like. buy 2 for cheap game discs at like. best buy. i love those cheap bargain bin point and click games#hidden object games were my entire thing from the age of like. 8 to 12#we also had like. three ispy game discs one of which had FOUR separate worlds to go to#which upon my recent googling was like. multiple ispy games packaged into one which i cannot find any record of??#i know for a fact it had a space section the fantasy one and the school days one#and then we had treasure hunt and spooky mansion as separate discs#I FUCKING MISS SPOOKY MANSION i have a download of it but i CAN'T PLAY IT bc it was made for computers older than windows 7#it fucks up the aspect ratio of the screen and the mouse like. shows the cursor being about an inch to the left of where it Actually Is#its weird#anyway complete non sequitur here but I GOT THE STUPID ASS MULTIPLAYER ITEMS IN TERRARIA#i forgot i could just. make a multiplayer world. and not invite anyone to it. and get the items that way#so this can still be a purely singleplayer challenge i just have to click on a different menu to get these items#NOW I JUST HAVE TO FUCKING PAINTING HUNT. HOORAY š³#they need to make a version of that emoji without the blush. i am not flushed i am fucking STARING AT U LIKE A MADMAN#the fucking. uluru painting. i chewed through 7 ENTIRE LARGE DESERTS FOR THAT FUCKING THING#7 LARGE WORLDS. DCU. DESTROYED ALL TRACE OF SAND. ONLY GOT ULURU IN AN OLD ABANDONED WORLD INSTEAD š#and now. now i have to search for fucking WALDO?????? WALDO????? this actually looped back around to the initial topic of the post huh#any hidden object BOOKS i would fucking eat up as well the Can You See What I See books??? i liked those better than ispy actually#walter wick is the one man responsible for my LIFELONGGGGGGG obsession with hidden object games#i LEARNED TO READ with ispy books initially and i fucking LOVED it it was so fun making learning a game#i learned to read like. wayyyyy faster than other kids apparently?#i dont remember what age but i was definitely early bc i knew enough that when i entered preschool i was like. past their starting level#i dont remember the details i just know like. i learned to read really early. and i was a late talker#but neither of my parents think i was. bc both of them were delayed in speaking too so they think its normal--#but like. my mom was Deaf she absolutely was a late talker#and my dad. well. lets just say my mother has less of the tism tendencies to gift to me#and also both were part of very very large chaotic families so like. mild neglect was part of the package yknow
